Raymond did an unbelievable job establishing the British School of Tashkent. From a standing start, he navigated the challenges of what was, then, very much a frontier location. Raymond created a high-quality British School, leading a mostly local staff team and a few expatriate specialists. He hand-picked the start-up team, academic and administrative, making flying visits to Tashkent to interview at the weekends, alongside leadership work at another of our British Schools Foundation schools. Something that gave BST a point of difference was how Raymond led staff development from August 2010 onwards, when the school opened to students. Probity Education visited our school for 5 days of training. Since the visit, we have seen many new strategies used by the trainees in our classrooms as well as an increase in the overall drive and energy of our teaching team. The sessions required extremely careful planning since the trainees varied widely in terms of their skills, experience and language abilities and struck a very healthy balance between practical work and the theory that underpins this.
